Technical Education Expert Joins Manchester Cycling Academy

Sports technical education expert, Mike Bourke has joined Manchester Cycling Academy as Head of Education. 

Bourke joins the Trafford based education provider as it gears up for a second year of a partnership with Trafford College Group with a brief to make improvements and to identify new commercial partners as the business continues to grow. 

He has a wealth of experience in Technical Education having recently been engaged with League Football Education (LFE) to support the English Football League Clubs through the Government’s Apprenticeship reform agenda, helping to ensure the successful piloting of the new Sporting Excellence Professional Apprenticeship Standard (SEP)

He was a key member of the National Training Organisation for Sport and Recreation (SPRITO) and Skills Active teams responsible for the development of the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) and has significant expertise in the design and operational management of sport and physical activity apprenticeship programmes across the UK. 

Stefan Hopewell, Director of ABC Sports Learning, the parent company of Manchester Cycling Academy, welcomed Mike to the organisation and said: “Mike was the outstanding candidate from the very outset of our search and is already proving to be a great asset to Manchester Cycling Academy. 

“He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience which is enabling us to move forward with confidence at a rapid pace.” He added.

Mike Bourke said: “I am delighted to be on board, we aim to help young people make the most of their cycling abilities, and develop the business so that we make a significant contribution to the growth and development of the UK’s cycling workforce in support of increased participation in all forms of cycling”. 

Bourke will be engaged initially on a part time interim basis and is also engaged with leading Sports Consultancy, Sport Structures and other clients through his consultancy business, Productivity at Work.
