Bring Bike Riding Alive for Your Whole Organisation
Helping children to learn to ride a bike with confidence, independence and joy.
Manchester Cycling Academy partners with schools, clubs, and youth groups across Greater Manchester and Cheshire to help young people discover the freedom and joy of riding a bike.
Our structured programmes are designed to help children develop essential bike handling skills, boost their independence, and spark a lifelong love of cycling.
From Learn to Ride and after-school clubs to our Beyond Bikeability programme, teacher training and bike maintenance workshops, we make cycling accessible, inclusive, and lasting, not just a one-off experience.
We offer:
Our proven step-by-step approach helps children go from wobble to confident rider – quickly, safely, and with a smile.
We work with schools and groups of all sizes, adapting sessions for every learner.
It’s the perfect introduction before pupils progress to on-road training such as Bikeability.
At Manchester Cycling Academy, we ensure that doesn’t happen.
We offer programmes that:
- Prepare children before Bikeability – improving balance, control and awareness so they’re ready to succeed.
- Reinforce Bikeability skills afterwards – with follow-up coaching, games-based skill sessions and real-world practice.
- Develop long-term engagement – through after-school clubs, progression sessions and bike maintenance workshops that keep young riders motivated.
We help schools turn Bikeability from a one-off course into the start of a lifelong cycling journey.
Engaging, progressive sessions designed to build skills, teamwork, and confidence. Suitable for all ages and abilities from those on balance bikes to confident group riders.
These sessions are delivered by British Cycling qualified and DBS checked coaches who know how to make every session fun, safe, and rewarding.
Most schools now offer Bikeability, the excellent government funded training that introduces children to on-road cycling skills. It’s an important milestone. But feedback from teachers and schools tells us it can be a one-hit wonder.
After the initial experience, there’s often little opportunity to practise or build on what they’ve learned. Skills fade. Confidence drops. Bikes gather dust.
At Manchester Cycling Academy, our Beyond Bikeability programme
- Prepares children before Bikeability – improving balance, control and awareness so they’re ready to succeed.
- Reinforces Bikeability skills afterwards – with follow-up coaching, games-based skill sessions and real-world practice.
- Develops long-term engagement – through after-school clubs, progression sessions, and maintenance workshops that keep young riders motivated.
We help schools turn Bikeability from a one-off course into the start of a lifelong cycling journey.
Cycling doesn’t have to stop when the school day ends. Our after-school clubs are a brilliant way to keep pupils fit and active, learning and progressing in a relaxed, social setting.
Schools can choose one of two delivery models:
- Parent-paid: The school hosts the club, and parents book and pay directly for their child’s sessions.
- School-funded: The school buys in our expert coaches to deliver the club exclusively for pupils.
We handle all the logistics from bookings and communication to risk assessments and equipment. All sessions are safe, structured, and great fun.
Perfect for:
✅ Extending PE and enrichment offers
✅ Encouraging physical activity and independence
✅ Building community links with parents
We help teachers and school staff develop the confidence and skills to deliver safe, enjoyable cycling sessions.
Training includes:
- Risk assessment and safety awareness. Perfect for schools aiming to embed cycling into their long-term curriculum or enrichment offer.
- Basic bike-handling and group management
- Inclusive delivery techniques
Cycling doesn’t have to stop when the school day ends. Our after-school Cycling confidence isn’t just about riding, it’s about understanding your bike.
We offer:
- Small-group sessions (up to 8 participants): hands-on workshops covering puncture repair, chain care, safety checks and basic maintenance.
- Large-group sessions: interactive demonstrations for whole classes, clubs, or year groups.
These sessions build independence, problem-solving, and a sense of ownership over the bike empowering pupils to keep riding safely. All sessions are safe, structured, and great fun
For young people who thrive in non-traditional learning environments, cycling can be transformative.
Our alternative provision programmes use cycling as a vehicle for improving confidence, behaviour, and engagement — in a supportive, active setting.
We work closely with schools and local authorities to design tailored programmes that make a genuine difference.
