Join us in for a four night trip to Girona, Spain this March. This innovative trip is the first of its kind and promises to be a fantastic experience.
It’s a perfect alternative to a cycling holiday and is ideal for cyclists looking to develop leading skills for their club, group or business.
We will lead you around the historic city of Girona visiting cycling cafes and Game of Thrones locations and a ride along the stunning Costa Brava coast.
The course covers group riding etiquette, route planning, advanced communication, group management on roads and traffic free terrain, decision making and advanced risk management.
Uniquely, this course will take place on the roads and gravel paths around Girona in northern Spain.
You’re likely to see several professional teams on training camps whilst you are there. Many professional cycling teams, including EF Education-EasyPost are based in Girona and are likely to be on winter training camp during the off season.
If you want to lead professional rides in Europe then the Advanced Ride Leader course is the qualification for you. Insurers increasingly want to see that ride leaders are fully qualified, up to date and are able to safely plan and risk assess rides and without this course, you may not be able to secure insurance cover. Once you are qualified, you will receive one year’s FREE insurance from British Cycling.*
We will arrive at our base at the Hotel Carlemany in the heart of historic Girona on day one and after a quick lunch we then will collect our bikes and set off for a short ride around the city.
We will show you the hip cafes, cycling hotspots and Game of Thrones film locations before we head to our base where the classroom sessions will begin in the late afternoon.
Day two will see us take a short practical ride around Girona taking in some of the routes used by the many grand tour cycling professionals who live in the city before a lunch at one of the many stylish cycling cafes.
In the afternoon we will continue with more practical and classroom sessions later in the day, leaving you time to enjoy the bars and restaurants in Girona. You may spot world class professionals on your rides as many professional teams are based in or have cycling training camps in Girona.
On day three we will have a long day in the saddle when we embark on practical sessions on the quieter and traffic free routes around Girona and then on a lengthy ride – with a coffee stop of course – of around 40-50 miles in the afternoon.
When we return to Girona you will have the late afternoon and evening to yourself to explore the many cafes, bars and restaurants in the historic City.
Day four will be our final day together and we will head out on a day-long ride to the stunning coastline along the Costa Brava. These road are reported to be amongst the most beautiful in the world and there will be plenty of opportunities to stop and enjoy the spectacular views.
We will stop for a coffee and lunch on the coast before we head back to Girona so you can prepare for the farewell dinner later that evening.
On the morning of day five we will break camp, say our farewells and prepare for our journey home and for those staying in Girona there will be an optional gravel ride on the Vies Verdes to the hills west of Girona.
